Neckpiece is a term used by artists, referring to a type of sculptural work.
You will be familiar with the term Neck-Lace.
All Neckpieces are not actually Lace. A string of beads is not Lacey. Some things made to be worn around the neck are quite solid and not Lacey at all. In which case, Necklace is not an appropriate term for them. Whereas Neckpiece covers everything, especially something that is a one off work of art.
